Boulder lined river in a steep walled gorge with near continuous cliff bands on both sides. Up hill about 100 m is RR grade which is open for 4 wheel drive traffic.;Boulder zone along the river with a small pool between 2 rapids. Substrate of car-sized boulder catches sand where vegetation is rooted. Diversity and cover by herbs is reduced by frequent high energy flooding and roots of trees at lower end are exposed. Woodland physiognomy, with canopy dominated by Betula nigra. There is one old, toppled but still living Juniperus virginiana in this plot.
Representativeness
Plot represents most of a small patch of community, which is a variant of the riverscour woodland on large boulders with sandy deposition. Plot width covers width of the patch (~13m)
